Muscle tension Profile

Muscle tension is a state or condition of the mind and body, where muscle fibers remain constricted for extended periods of time. Regardless of having any health problems, many people are not aware of their muscle tension. Consequently, they have no idea how muscle tension can worsen or harm their health, let alone how achieving tension control can help!

Factors that often contribute to tension are stress, pain, anxiety, lack of sleep, bad posture, job demand, and/or financial problems. At the same time, tension could be the actual cause of pain or anxiety and prevent getting plenty of restful sleep. Tension can cause reduced productivity or fatigue at work, leading to job safety concerns. Problems with focus and concentration may also be a result of excessive tension held in the body.

The purpose of the muscle tension profile is to determine the nature of your muscle tension and develop goals through the following determinations:

  • Identify muscle groups that have excessive tension and need to be trained.
  • Identify overactive and underactive muscles
  • How repetitive motions can affect muscles
  • Identify muscle abilities for recovery after repeated use of muscles

The purpose of the functional profile is to address the state of your muscles during sitting, standing, and walking. This profile and training then provide basic recommendations for muscle tension control and how to prevent repetitive strain injury. One example outcome might be recommendations on how to relax muscles and reduce tension.

People that might benefit from tension profile:

  • Those with jobs that require repetitive motions (for example, computer users)
  • Chronic pain sufferers or people with muscle-related disorders, such as tension headaches, TMJ, low back and/or neck muscle pain, etc.
  • People with stressful professions or careers. Preventing the development of rigid posture in response to stress
  • Sufferers from anxiety, sleep and breathing problems.

Training based on your tension profile has been proven to be highly effective in accelerating the healing process and shortening recovery time.

Your tension profile may also be helpful for medical doctors, chiropractors, and physical or massage therapists to help facilitate their treatment. Often times, these objective physiological findings can help provide focus and direction for other current treatments.
