Stress, cancer, radiation, sleep and family issues

I would like to share with you my experience of using diaphragmatic breathing and relaxation techniques. I am so grateful to Felix who taught these techniques and instructed me how to use them in stressful situations.                                                                                              During the last few years I had several surgeries, radiation therapy (19 sessions) and family problems. Breathing and muscle tension awareness

I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Felix Laevsky. I felt welcomed from the first time I met him. He is incredibly knowledgeable about biofeedback techniques, and his engaging teaching style makes it fun to learn about those techniques.

I came to him feeling overwhelmed and tense, struggling to find ways to breathe properly and relax. Thanks to his guidance, I have learned how much mindfulness helps with assessing where I am with my tension levels and what to do to lower my stress. Felix taught me practical techniques to breathe effectively and also to relax my muscles to let go of pent-up tension.

What I appreciate most is how deeply he cares for his patients. He took the time to understand my needs and tailored sessions so that I could get the most benefit out of them. Plus, his good sense of humor kept the sessions light and enjoyable, making it easier for me to open up and engage in the process over time.

I’m so grateful for everything that Felix Laevsky has done for me. If you are looking for someone who can help you learn mindfulness to determine your breath awareness and muscle tensions awareness, and you are looking for proven techniques to help with decreasing stress and increasing your well-being, I highly recommend him!

Some science behind a stress response

 Central role of the brain

The brain is the organ that determines what is novel and possibly threatening and therefore “stressful” and it orchestrates the behavioral and physiological responses, whether health promoting or health damaging. And the brain is a biological organ that changes in its architecture and its molecular profile and its neurochemistry under acute and chronic stress and directs many systems of the body—metabolic, cardiovascular and immune—that are involved in the short- and long-term consequences of being “stressed out” and the consequent health-damaging behaviors. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/a…

What are the consequences of long-term stress?

A little stress every now and then is not something to be concerned about. But ongoing, chronic stress can cause or worsen many serious health problems, including: Mental health problems, such as depressionanxiety, and personality disorders

Cardiovascular disease, including heart diseasehigh blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks, and strokes  Obesity and other eating disorders

Menstrual problems  Sexual dysfunction
Skin and hair problems, such as acnepsoriasis, and eczema, and permanent hair loss

Gastrointestinal problems, such as GERDgastritisulcerative colitis, and irritable colon

About effect of coping with stress

The day-to-day causes of stress are called daily hassles. Daily hassles are correlated with ill health. Biofeedback is one of the tools used for acquiring stress-coping skills.

We observed significant improvements in the psychological test scores and salivary cortisol levels in the intervention group compared to the control group. The gray matter GM of the brain regions are associated with the stress response, and, in general, these regions seem to be the most sensitive to the detrimental effects of stress.

Our findings suggest that our Biofeedback training is effective against the GM structures vulnerable to stress.

We found positive relationships between daily job performance, evening relaxation, next-morning positive affect, and next-day deep acting. We further found support for the indirect effect of daily job performance on next-day deep acting through evening relaxation and next-morning positive affect.
